Product details

Name: De-Bond Mate Silicone Sealant Remover

A non-drip gel formula for the complete removal of cured silicone sealant, particularly when silicone has been accidentally smeared over glass, ceramics or counter tops. Removes all types of silicone and sealant by breaking up and digesting the material, leaving surfaces clean and ready for re-sealing.

Features: Readily digests silicone. – Non-drip: can be used horizontally or vertically. – Contains no halogenated solvents: safe low odour formulation. – Minimal hazard rating: all active substances are biodegradable. – Does not contain dichloromethane. – Water clean up. – Ready for use.

Application: Chemically digests cured and uncured silicone elastomers and polymers, leaving their remnants easy to rinse away with water or solvent. Should be used to remove old silicone sealant during renovations. It is suitable for use on brick, concrete, PVCu, melamine laminates, acrylic, uncoated aluminium and its alloys, copper and its alloys, iron and steels, glass and ceramics, epoxy composites without adverse effect. Has little impact on rubber and non silicone elastomers or most painted surfaces, however it is advisable to always test a small area before use. Apply using a standard sealant gun (BDCG300).

Instructions: Preparation: Product is ready to use and should not be diluted. Ensure the surface of the material is completely dry. Cut away as much of the silicone as possible with a knife or sharp blade. Protect any surrounding paint work with masking tape. Application: Extrude the gel over the old silicone, being careful to avoid areas of correctly applied sealant. The depth of cover should be at least twice as deep as the depth of silicone to be removed. Allow to stand for at least 2 hours (this may vary depending on the characteristics of the silicone and substrate but are typically between 2 to 12 hours.)
Wipe clean with a paper tissue or dry cloth and ensure all traces of solvent are removed. Repeat the process if necessary. Keep some water handy to deactivate any runs. Surfaces should be degreased with a solvent, such as methylated spirit, before applying fresh sealant.

Limitations: Do not use on nylon, re-enamelled or plastic coated metals. If in doubt, try a small area first. The gel should be applied to dry surfaces only and under dry weather conditions. If the gel comes
into contact with water, the active ingredients will be deactivated and the gel rendered un-usable. The gel will not completely dissolve silicone sealant but will break down the adhesion of the sealant to the substrate to facilitate removal.
